Therapy Sessions
I understand that therapy can often be a daunting prospect. I aim to create a non-judgmental and collaborative therapy space, using compassion and empathy, to help you feel comfortable to get the most out of our time together.
I will work flexibly alongside you to adapt our therapy to your needs, preferences and current circumstances. This includes both the way in which we meet and the approaches I draw on to support you. Through therapy I hope to empower you to move towards your personal goals and ultimately be able to live a more fulfilling life in line with your strengths and values.

I offer both short and longer term therapy, led by our shared understanding of your difficulties and what support would be beneficial, whilst considering what is feasible for you right now.

I offer self funded and insurance funded sessions. Please see FAQ for more information.
Therapy Approaches
“When we deny our emotion, it owns us. When we own our emotion, we can rebuild and find our way through the pain.”

- Brene Brown -
I will draw on my experience of different evidence based therapies. Our approach will be led by my ongoing assessment of your difficulties and our collective understanding of what is going on for you.
I will bring my knowledge of psychological theory and therapy and fit this together with your expertise in yourself and your experiences.

The therapy approaches I can draw on include:
-
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
-
Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT)
-
Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT)
-
Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT)
-
Trauma-focused CBT (TF-CBT)
-
Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET)

These approaches can help us to recognise unhelpful patterns, validate where these have come from, and gradually work together to slow down the overwhelm or unpick how stuck you may feel. This will enable us to look for opportunities to do something differently and to help bring you closer to your values and what is important to you.
I understand that we do not exist in isolation. We grow and live in systems that do not always serve or support our mental health. This can include variations in the level of privilege we have, the power that operates in our lives, and cultural or societal variations in the stories we are told about who we are and who we are allowed to be.
I draw on Systemic and Narrative therapeutic approaches to explore and gradually deconstruct the ways that these ideas and experiences may impact on our well-being. This includes noticing the ways in which the environment around you may contribute to, or reinforce, your distress. For example, your relationships, local community and connections, systems you are part of, and broader society.

This could involve working on ways to enact change around you or considering broader support outside of our therapy room to give justice to the challenges you have had or are continuing to face.
